Our Location
Breakwater Kayak, LLC is based on the waterfront in the small city of Rockland. You can find us at the Boat Barn of the Landings Restaurant (next to the public landing). Located on the west coast of Penobscot Bay in Maine’s mid-coast region, Rockland’s large safe harbor is protected by Owls Head to the south and to the northeast by our namesake, a large mile-long granite breakwater with a lighthouse on its end.
Historically, Rockland was a major commercial port with shipbuilding, commercial fishing, granite quarrying, and lime kilns representing the local industries. These activities kept the windjammer shipping fleet busy. Today, recreational boats, windjammer cruises, island ferries, and working lobstermen are the active commerce of the harbor. In addition, new restaurants and marinas add to Rockland’s character, making the city very diverse and culturally rich for its size.
The harbor is large enough to offer fine sea kayaking. Breakwater Kayak, LLC tours provide opportunities to see much of the local marine life, including harbor seals and a variety of bird species. Our sea kayaks allow for a unique and wonderful way to experience the great views of the Camden hills, schooners, quiet coves, distant islands, headlands, and lighthouses.
From our gateway in Rockland, the waters of Penobscot and Muscongus Bays are easily accessible. With Breakwater Kayak, LLC, you can explore the incredible diversity of wildlife and the beautiful, rocky, spruce studded islands and coves this area. Many quaint small towns and fishing villages along the way complement the beauty of the area.
