Half-Day Tours

Breakwater Lighthouse Tour (3-4 hours)

This is a great trip for beginners as well as those with a few hours of exploring time. This tour begins at Snow Marine Park on the Rockland waterfront (near the public landing) and will give you a feeling of the excitement of sea kayaking. We will follow the shoreline, paddling past numerous recreational boats, schooners, and working lobster boats. We will see the active commercial fish pier, Coast Guard station, and state ferry terminal. We will head to more open water and look for osprey, seabirds, and seals as we paddle towards the Rockland breakwater and lighthouse. If conditions are good, we will paddle along the breakwater to the lighthouse for photo opportunities. Then, we will land near the Samoset Resort at the base of the breakwater, which will give us a chance to stretch our legs and explore the breakwater itself. When paddling back to port, we will pass by working boat yards and lobster pounds as we enjoy a beautiful view of the city and the surrounding Camden Hills.

Harbor to Harbor Tour (4-5 hours)

On this half-day tour, we will paddle from Rockland Harbor to Owls Head Harbor exploring the coves and beaches as we wind our way along the beautiful, rocky Maine coast. It begins at Snow Marine Park on the Rockland waterfront (near the public landing). In Rockland’s historic harbor, we will see working lobster boats and tall-masted schooners. We’ll look for shorebirds, seals, osprey, and eagles as we paddle along the protected shoreline and ledges toward Owls Head State Park. Once at the park, we will land on a small gravel beach to enjoy a gourmet picnic lunch at the park’s picnic tables. The park trails offer a chance for us to hike to the Owls Head lighthouse and enjoy expansive views of Penobscot Bay and its islands. We will end our tour by paddling around the rugged headland of the park and into the picturesque and charming fishermen’s harbor of Owls Head.
